Watch 8-Year-Old Meghan Markle Practice for Her Role of a Lifetime: Becoming a Royal
Long before Meghan Markle set eyes on Prince Harry, she knew she was destined to become a royal.
In a home video from 1990, 8-year-old Markle can be seen playing queen for a day at her friend Ninaki Priddy’s birthday party, and now we understand why her transition from plebian actress to royal is so seamless.
In the video, Markle reigns over the birthday party, playing queen in a home production of Your Royal Highness. A natural born leader, Markle appears to direct and star in the film, as she can be heard yelling “Take one!” before taking her place on the royal quilt.
As Markle gets into character, one partygoer turned lady-in-waiting asks Queen Megs, “Your highness, isn’t there anything to do around the kingdom anymore?”
Without a moment’s hesitation, little Markle replies, “Yes! Make me 900,000 cookies and sew me a nice dress.” Sounds like a glimpse into her wedding planning, amirite?
Another girl asks, “Your highness, what is this all for?” to which Markle coolly retorts, “It’s for this meeting I’m having. I’m having people from Florida and Canada, Mississippi, Missouri.” OK, this little girl can see into the future.
Not surprisingly, Markle is a fair and cordial leader and even gives her princesses a ten-minute break between takes.
We still have two months left until Markle weds Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in London. Until then, we’re taking a page out of 8-year-old Markle’s queen-in-training playbook: Keep calm and princess on.
