Fact: Anyone who's ever planned a wedding has, at one point or another, considered scrapping the whole logistical hellscape and eloping to a favorite far-off land with their honey.
Well, as it turns out, these musings have turned to action as of late, and destination elopements are on the major upswing as a wedding format. Google search for the term hit an all-time peak in mid 2018, and in Pinterest's latest trends report, search for "elopement photography" was among the top ten wedding search terms.
According to Janessa White, founder of Simply Eloped (a company that helps couples execute such shindigs), they're having a moment, in part, due to their eco-friendliness: "By having a low-key, private ceremony, there is little to no waste produced," she explained. "Overall, elopements align with the values of millennials, which is why I think they’re getting so popular."
So there you have it—fleeing to Milos for a barefoot ceremony has never been so socially acceptable. (Sorry, Nana.)
