Tonight on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, Arie Luyendyk Jr. came face-to-face with Becca (and America) for the first time since breaking off their engagement. Here’s what went down.
Chris Harrison kicked off the show with a video recap of last night’s drama-filled episode. The clip details Becca’s gut-wrenching breakup before showing a never-before-seen conversation between Arie and season 13 Bachelor Jason Mesnick, who infamously dumped Melissa Rycroft for his runner-up, Molly Malaney.
After Jason gives him a pep talk, Arie travels to Virginia Beach in an attempt to win Lauren back. When he arrives, he informs her about the called-off engagement and says he wants to get back together with her. Lauren admits that she took their breakup really hard because she couldn’t confide in anyone and then presses him on why he proposed to Becca.
He explains his side of the story, and she—of course—takes him back and encourages him to propose sooner rather than later.
The Ones Who Got Away
Harrison invites Bekah, Caroline, Tia, Kendall and Seinne onstage, and they waste no time accusing Arie of being manipulative. Bekah claims he isn’t genuine, considering he direct-messaged her on social media after his breakup with Becca. Ouch.
When it comes to Arie’s future, Bekah says she wants Lauren to get out ASAP, while Kendall provides a super-classy answer about how she hopes they both learn from this, er, speed bump.
As for Becca, the women seem fairly positive about her prospects in the dating world. Just announce it already, Harrison.
Becca Tells All
Now that Becca is in the hot seat, she says it’s hard to re-watch the breakup, but at the same time, it’s giving her closure. She goes on to reveal that Arie wasn’t completely honest with her after the engagement. Although he came clean about telling Lauren he loved her, Becca didn’t know that he reached out to her to get closure.
Right on cue, Arie joins Becca onstage. After an extremely uncomfortable hug, Arie says he’s happy to see her. Becca, on the other hand, wastes no time diving into the tough questions and immediately asks him when he knew he wanted to be with Lauren.
Arie blames it on the phone call and hearing Lauren’s voice, which prompts Becca to press him on why he hid it from her. He explains that he didn’t want to make any rash decisions, but she doesn’t buy it. Becca says she wishes he had been honest with her and says she will never experience the excitement that accompanies getting engaged because he robbed her of that opportunity.
Nevertheless, she forgives him. (Becca, you saint.)
The Happy Couple
Lauren and Arie join Chris Harrison onstage, and she opens up about her reaction to Arie’s change of heart. Although they didn’t watch last night’s finale, Lauren gushes over her man’s courage before revealing she’s more in love with him than ever. Barf.
As for their future plans, the couple says they’re going on an international vacation until the hype dies down, and when they return, Lauren is moving to Arizona.
Suddenly, Arie launches into a well-rehearsed speech before getting down on one knee to propose to her. Déjà vu, anyone?
And the Bachelorette Is…
At long last, it’s finally time to announce the next Bachelorette. And the lucky lady is—drumroll, please—Becca! After receiving a standing ovation, Becca says she’s ready to open her heart again and do what she came here to do: find love.
Harrison reveals her journey to find love is starting, like, now and proceeds to introduce Becca to five suitors who will appear on the upcoming season.
Everything happens for a reason, don’t ya think? The Bachelorette will premiere sometime this spring on ABC.
