OMG, You Have to See the Bottom of Rihanna’s Turtleneck Dress

Hot on the heels of her Fenty X Savage show, Rihanna switched gears from fashion mogul to philanthropist in honor of her fifth annual Diamond Ball at Cipriani Wall Street in New York last night.

Each and every year, the 31-year-old “Diamonds” singer dresses to seriously impress for the lavish affair and the 2019 ball was no different. Rihanna opted for a Givenchy Haute Couture black velvet turtleneck from Clare Waight Keller’s fall/winter 2019 Nobless Radicale (“radical nobility”) collection. It was timeless and elegant, but it was the gown’s hemline that really caught our eye.

Rihanna’s Givenchy number featured a white cage skirt in double organza, which jutted out to create a structural and unexpected trumpet hemline. The billionaire singer-turned-designer elevated her couture with large pearl earrings, matching rings, bright red lips and nails, a stylish up-do and white strappy patent leather pumps.

(If Rihanna’s gown looks somewhat familiar, it’s because Meghan Markle wore a Waight Keller—created velvet one-shoulder gown in the same family for the 2018 Fashion Awards. The 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex awarded the Givenchy creative director with the Designer of the Year award while simultaneously showing off her baby bump. Guess RiRi and Markle have similar taste.)

Anyway, RiRi closed out the evening, which benefits her Clara Lionel Foundation—a charity that supports education programs around the globe—with an onstage performance with Pharrell.

Suffice it to say, Rihanna shined bright like a diamond as always.
