Missy Elliott Performs ‘Work It’ with Her ‘Funky White Sister’ on ‘Ellen’
Missy Elliott isn’t the only one who knows how to work it.
More than a month after a video of karaoke aficionado Mary Halsey singing “Work It” went viral, the long-time Elliott fan got the chance to rap onstage at The Ellen DeGeneres Show. But that’s not all. She also got a little help from a very special friend (*cough* Elliott).
It all started when a video of Halsey performing “Work It” with a ram’s horn in hand made its rounds on the internet (natch). Elliott caught wind of it and dubbed Halsey her “funky white sister” via Twitter. So, DeGeneres invited Halsey to perform her fave song of 15 years on TV.
Just as Halsey was about to “flip it and reverse it,” Elliott chimed in and joined her on stage. The result? Complete shock and a totally epic performance.
But the cutest part is after the song, when Halsey quietly says, “Hi, Missy,” and all three women gather for a group hug.
Karaoke really does bring people together.
