The Latest (Spoof) Addition to the Marvel Universe Is…‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel?’

What do you get when you combine the biggest movie and comic franchise with a hit comedy series? A “mildly clever, convoluted pun,” apparently. Introducing: James Corden’s Marvel’s Mrs. Maisel.

On last night’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, the 41-year-old host looked to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan to help him create the ultimate crossover. Yep, the duo created a very strange movie, or as Corden called it “a billion-dollar box office gross” that combines the superhero power of Marvel films with the snark of Brosnahan’s hit Amazon series. As you can imagine, the results were mixed.

In the bit, we see Brosnahan, 29, checking out Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet gems and asking what the carat count is. (Classic Mrs. Maisel.) From there, she accidentally halts production when she uses Captain America’s shield to catch some extra rays in time for her Catskills weekend. Lastly, Brosnahan meets Spider-Man and asks if he’s of any relation to Dr. David Spiderman of the Upper West Side. Spoiler alert: He’s not.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Corden stresses about how this is his follow-up to Cats so it has to be good (hardee-har-har) and demands kombucha, which is delivered to him out of the palms of a production assistant. Suffice it to say, it’s not the smoothest behind-the-scenes vibe we’ve ever seen.

In the end, Corden and Brosnahan decide their movie isn’t going to work out. But Corden’s Maisel-branded gefilte fish marmalade? Now, that’s a different story. *Gags*
