Not all Christmas movies are created equal, and they have the box office earnings to prove it.
Santa, er, Boxofficemojo.com, made its list and checked it twice, and Home Alone is officially the highest grossing Christmas movie of all time. Following its 1990 release, the Macaulay Culkin–led film grossed $285.8 million. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, adjusted for inflation, that’s about the equivalent of $619.1 million in today’s money. Not even a Marvel movie can beat that.
Now How the Grinch Stole Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life surely have their place in the Christmas canon, but as far as profitability goes, Home Alone is the star atop the tree.
No wonder Culkin uses it to woo ladies.
