*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
Yes, you read that right. It’s not just some evil trick to make Jaime and Tyrion both fall into her deceitful plan: Cersei Lannister is truly pregnant.
According to Vanity Fair, who recently combed through the Game of Thrones season seven scripts that are on display at the Writers Guild of America West library, the evil queen is actually telling the truth about her pregnancy.
When Jaime comes to tell Cersei of his secret meet up with Tyrion, she spills the news. Many fans wondered if this was some manipulation to get her brother (and, ew, father of her children) Jaime to obey her. In fact, she makes him swear to never betray her again after the Tyrion meeting. But it seems her announcement was genuine. The script reads: “She nods, it’s true. [. . .] Her happiness is contagious. They get another chance at family. This time with no one standing in their way."
Later, when Tyrion realizes his sister is, in fact, pregnant, Cersei is actually surprised (which seems like a weird reaction for the most evil person in Westeros, but so be it). This means she didn’t plan for him to find out as part of a larger plot to manipulate him. Here’s the excerpt: “Tyrion sees what he sees and knows what it means. He can hardly believe it, but knows it to be true. [. . .] She stays silent for too long, long enough to tell him that he’s right. And once she knows he knows, she can think of nothing else to say.”
So what does this mean for season eight? We may see some Cersei maternity wear, that’s for sure. But, truthfully, it’s hard to say how this will play out, except for possibly the tie-in to the Valonqar prophecy made by Maggy the Frog. Does it actually mean Cersei’s future child will kill her in childbirth instead?
Only five months to go (but who’s counting?!).
