Anna Faris is an adoring mom to her healthy 5-year-old son, Jack, but there was a time when she and her recently separated husband, Chris Pratt, were unsure about what his future held.
In her new memoir, Unqualified, out Tuesday, October 24, the Mom star reveals her son was born several weeks premature and suffered from complications. Faris remembered the traumatic experience, writing, “The pediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled.”
Doctors warned Faris and Pratt they wouldn’t be able to discern if Jack was disabled until he was 18 months old. He was kept in the neonatal intensive care unit for weeks while his parents tried to remain strong.
The House Bunny star wrote of this harrowing time, “These moments can be hard on couples, but for us it really brought us together. It felt like it was us against the world.”
Now Jack is a healthy little rascal, and he only sustained slightly impaired vision and leg muscle issues.
“He has some temper tantrums occasionally (did I mention he’s 5?),” Faris wrote. “But he’s a really good kid and he’s happy and delicious and likes cuddles.”
Because cuddles are the best.
