Rachel McAdams & Kathy Bates Wow in First Official Trailer for ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’

Judy Blume fans are gonna love this brand-new trailer.

Today, Lionsgate released the first official teaser for Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. The film is based on the namesake novel by Judy Blume (duh), and it’s a nostalgic walk down memory lane for readers of all ages.

The story is told from the perspective of a middle schooler named Margaret (played by Abby Ryder Fortson), who feels like an outsider. To make matters worse, she’s forced to move from the city to the suburbs, where she encounters all the cringe-worthy pre-teen moments. (Cue the school official saying, “I’m here to speak to you today about your changing bodies.”)

Margaret experiences countless rites of passage, but her number one goal is to fit in. “Please just do this one thing for me,” she says in the trailer. “Just let me be normal and regular like everybody else. Just please, please, please, please, please, please, please.”

While the story focuses on Margaret, the film also features an all-star ensemble cast, including Rachel McAdams (who plays Margaret’s mom, Barbara) and Kathy Bates (who plays Margaret’s grandma, Sylvia). The movie is written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig (The Edge of Seventeen).

The tagline reads, “For over 50 years, one iconic book has connected generations. Now, it’s finally coming to the big screen.”
