Prince Philip Skipped the Trooping the Colour for a Totally Valid Reason
WPA Pool / PureWow

Every year the royal family and thousands of onlookers gather at the Trooping the Colour celebration to fete Queen Elizabeth’s birthday (which is actually April 21). This year, the monarch went stag to her enormous party, leading us all to wonder—where was Prince Philip?

Never fear, royal devotees. Philip, who celebrated his 97th birthday yesterday, was just resting.

The queen’s beloved underwent hip replacement surgery in April and spent a week at King Edward VII hospital before continuing his recovery at Windsor Palace. And although he was well enough to attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding last month, he’s still very much on the mend. Not only that, but the prince technically retired from public life last August, so his presence wasn’t necessarily expected.

Keep calm and rest on, Phil. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for another surprise outing sooner rather than later.
