Prince Charles Sends Rare Personal Message to the King of Tonga

It's not often that we get a personally-written message from a royal. However, Prince Charles just used his website to publish a rare note, which he addressed to the King of Tonga. Along with publishing this letter, the Prince of Wales also linked to it on the Instagram account he shares with Camilla Parker Bowles.

In a Story that was posted to the couple's Clarence House account, they took an excerpt from the prince's note, which said, “We send Your Majesty and the people of Tonga our heartfelt thoughts and special prayers at such a very difficult time.” Underneath this quote, there was a message explaining the reasoning for Prince Charles's personal letter, which said, “The Prince of Wales has sent a message of condolence to The King of Tonga, following the eruption of the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha‘apai volcano.”

In the full message (which can be read here), the Prince of Wales said, “Your Majesty, My wife and I were most concerned to hear of the devastation and reported loss of life brought upon the Kingdom of Tonga by the eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano and the subsequent tsunami. We can only begin to imagine the appalling challenges that you and your people are facing and our hearts go out to all those who have been bereaved, injured or whose property has been destroyed, and to all those who are awaiting the news of their family and friends.”

The prince closed with the words that were shared to Instagram, which said, “We send Your Majesty and the people of Tonga our heartfelt thoughts and special prayers at such a very difficult time.”

A very thoughtful message from the royal.
