Netflix Offers First Peek at ‘Russian Doll’ Season 2 (& It Features This ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Actress)

Fans of the Netflix series Russian Doll have been anxiously awaiting a follow-up to the highly-acclaimed first season ever since it premiered back in February 2019. Although the show was renewed for another season in June of that same year, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed filming until March 2021.

But now, we have reason to celebrate, because the comedy-drama series is finally returning to Netflix this spring. And to get fans excited, the streaming service just released the first set of photos from season 2, and...do our eyes deceive us? It looks like the show will be adding a Schitt's Creek actress to their roster.

Annie Murphy (AKA Alexis Rose) will be joining the regular cast, which includes star Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is the New Black), Greta Lee (The Morning Show), Charlie Barnett (You), Yul Vazquez (Runaway Bride) and Elizabeth Ashley (Treme).

Our first peek at season 2 was thanks to a series of photos posted to the show's official Instagram account. The producers shared snaps featuring Lyonee, Murphy, Barnett, Lee, as well as Ákos Orosz and Balázs Czukor. “Season 2. What a concept,” they wrote in the caption.

Lyonne got fans excited by sharing the same promo pics to her own account and writing, “Let the games begin! Season 2. What a concept. @russiandollnetflix Coming soon!”

According to Variety, “Season 2 will be set four years after Nadia (Lyonne) and Alan (Barnett) escaped mortality’s time loop. New episodes will follow the pair as they pass through an unexpected time portal located in Manhattan—causing both to face their pasts.” Lyonne will be returning as showrunner and one of the executive producers for season 2 as well.

Don't mind us while we excitedly await the official release date.
