Renée Zellweger Is a Sneaky Serial Killer in Trailer for New NBC Limited Series ‘The Thing About Pam’

Recently, we've seen the premiere of a number of limited series based on wild true stories, like Netflix's Inventing Anna and Hulu's Pam & Tommy. Now, it looks like NBC is joining the based-on-a-true-story trend, with the release of a brand-new miniseries titled, The Thing About Pam.

In this upcoming crime drama, two-time Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger portrays Pamela Hupp, a woman who murdered a former co-worker named Betsy Faria in 2011 and pinned the crime on Faria's husband, Russell ("Russ").

The Thing About Pam is adapted from a Dateline NBC podcast of the same name and it will premiere on NBC on March 8. Check out the trailer (and Zellweger's transformation into the real-life Hupp) below.

Besides Zellweger, The Thing About Pam stars other major names, including Josh Duhamel (Safe Haven), Judy Greer (27 Dresses) and Katy Mixon (Mike & Molly).

The twisted series is penned by Jenny Klein (Supernatural, The Witcher and Jessica Jones). She also serves as showrunner. Meanwhile, Zellweger is executive producing along with Klein, Carmella Casinelli, Mary-Margaret Kunze, Scott Winant, Jessika Borsiczky, Liz Cole, Noah Oppenheim, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold.

In NBC's official writeup for the series, they say, “The Thing About Pam is based on the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria that resulted in her husband Russ' conviction, although he insisted he didn't kill her. He was later exonerated. This brutal crime set off a chain of events that would expose a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp. A thorough examination of the scheme was featured on several episodes of Dateline NBC, becoming one of the most popular topics to ever air on the hit franchise. It also became the subject of a popular 2019 podcast, The Thing About Pam, which remains one of the most downloaded podcasts on Apple Podcasts.”

We will definitely be tuning in.
