When Joffrey Lannister (Jack Gleeson) died during the Purple Wedding, Game of Thrones fans openly rejoiced. And while his mother, Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Headey) legacy is only slightly more palatable, every Thronie knows she’ll eventually be killed. The only question is how. Well, one theory introduces a completely plausible possibility.
When Cersei was a young girl, she received a prophecy from Maggy the Frog (Jodhi May), a fortune teller from Lannisport, that’s explored in George R.R. Martin’s book A Feast for Crows. Maggy’s premonition foretold that Cersei would become queen and have three children that would die. Maggy says, “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” For those that don’t speak High Valyrian, “valonqar” means little brother.
The prophecy has mostly been thought to reference her younger brothers Jaime (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) or Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). It wouldn’t be a far stretch to think that either of them would ultimately kill her. But one Reddit user, Namez_Are_Hard, posed another potential outcome.
“Everyone also knows (or thinks anyway) that Cersei is pregnant again. What if she’s pregnant with another son, and while giving birth to him, she dies. She is killed by the Valonqar. Nowhere in Mags prophecy does it say HER valonqar, just THE valonqar,” Namez_Are_Hard posited.
