Elizabeth Olsen Says Her ‘Game of Thrones’ Audition Was So Bad She Blocked It from Memory

Some things are best forgotten—just ask Elizabeth Olsen.

The 30-year-old Avengers star stopped by Live with Kelly and Ryan yesterday and revealed that she once auditioned for the role of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, and it went so poorly that she purposefully erased it from her memory.

It all started when Ripa said she had read that Olsen auditioned for Game of Thrones and asked if there was any truth to it. Olsen admitted that she did in fact try out for the role and totally forgot about it.

Olsen explained, “Someone had asked about a terrible audition experience—a journalist, not a good time to remember something like that—and I was like, ‘I actually really love auditioning; I can’t really think of anything, and I was like, ‘Oh! Right! I auditioned for Game of Thrones.”

The would-be Khaleesi recalled auditioning in a tiny room with a casting director and very awkwardly trying to act out the scene where Daenerys (who was ultimately played by Emilia Clarke) is being burned alive. Suffice it to say, that’d be a tough scene for anyone.

“That was the furthest I ever got. It was that bad,” Olsen said.

She went on to muse that the experience was so “horrible” that she felt the casting director probably felt like leaving. “This is uncomfortable for me. I’m sure it’s awkward for her, like no one’s going to enjoy this experience,” she joked.

Despite her mortifying Game of Thrones audition, Olsen has built a pretty solid career for herself, if we do say.

Hey, you win some, you lose some.
