Mark your calendars

netflix new releases the crown

Netflix is sharing a never-before-seen glimpse at its December 2023 streaming slate, and it’s even better than expected.

The list is full of recognizable titles, including Black Swan, Man of Steel, She's All That, Suicide Squad, Taken and Wonder Woman. However, the real showstoppers are all the new original titles. While there are multiple debuts—like Maestro—there are also several shows that are returning for new seasons, like The Great British Baking Show: Holidays and The Crown.

Keep reading for our top picks from Netflix’s new releases, followed by a complete list of TV shows and movies that are coming to the streaming service beginning in December.

1. Christmas as Usual

  • Premiere date: December 6

If you need a brand-new holiday movie to add to your streaming queue, then look no further than Christmas as Usual. The story follows a woman who’s preparing to attend a typical Christmas celebration with her family in Norway. However, she doesn’t realize that bringing her Indian boyfriend will cause a stir among her traditional parents.

2. The Great British Baking Show: Holidays

  • Premiere date: December 8

The holiday spin-off is returning for season six. The competition series follows amateur cooks as they show off their baking skills in the hope of being crowned the best baker. Each week, they are challenged with creating a specific type of dessert, including pastries, cakes and tarts, to be tasted by an esteemed panel of judges.

3. The Crown

  • Premiere date: December 14

The Crown fans are counting down the days until season six part two, which will take place in the ’90s and early ’00s. Since the first part covers the final days before Princess Diana’s passing, the second half documents the aftermath of the tragic accident.

4. Maestro

  • Premiere date: December 20

Bradley Cooper is nearly unrecognizable in this upcoming film, which he starred in and directed. Maestro is a scripted retelling of the life and career of Broadway composer Leonard Bernstein (who’s best known for West Side Story).
