Max New Releases: The Best Shows & Movies to Watch in September

We always keep an eye out for the latest Netflix lineup, and, of course, everything coming to Prime Video. But now, we’re happy to report that Max (formerly HBO Max) is offering a sneak peek at its new releases.

Max has offered a glimpse of the exciting titles that will be added to its database in September 2023. There are multiple classic titles, like A Cinderella Story, Friday, It, Scooby-Doo and The Mask. There’s also a slew of Max debuts, like Donyale Luna: Supermodel, Young Love and Starstruck season three.

In the ’60s, Donyale Luna made history as the first Black model to grace the cover of not one, but two major publications. The documentary chronicles her inspiring life and career and highlights how she changed the modeling industry.

• Release date: September 21

The series is a follow-up to the animated short Hair Love, which focuses on the relationship between a father and his daughter. The new episodes further explore their family dynamic as they try to make ends meet. The voiceover cast includes Scott Mescudi, Issa Rae, Loretta Devine, Harry Lennix, Tamar Braxton and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

• Release date: September 28

The comedy show is returning for season three, which picks up right where the previous installment ends—with Jesse (Rose Matafeo) navigating life after her breakup with Tom (Nikesh Patel).

• Release date: TBA

If you’re looking for a good laugh, be sure to tune in to Sam Jay’s all-new comedy special, where she tackles everything from marriage to household chores. While the release date hasn’t been announced, Max confirmed that it’ll premiere sometime in September.
