Prince Harry Gets Candid About Where He Stands with the Royal Family: ‘I Feel Really Let Down’

Prince Harry just opened up about the royal family’s reaction to his departure from London, and it’s even worse than we expected.

Tonight, the Duke of Sussex sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all conversation, titled Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special. During the interview, Prince Harry discussed his decision to step down as a senior royal and revealed that the main reason he left the U.K. is a “lack of support and lack of understanding.”

He also revealed that he didn’t blindside Queen Elizabeth about resigning from royal duties, despite popular belief. “I never blindsided my grandmother,” Prince Harry added. “I have too much respect for her.”

Although she was in the know, that didn’t stop the monarch from cutting off Prince Harry once he moved to California. “My family cut me off financially,” he explained. “I was lucky that I had what my mum left me, or else we wouldn’t have been able to do this.”

His dad, Prince Charles, stopped returning his calls at one point, but Prince Harry confirmed that they’re on better terms as of late. “There’s a lot to work through there,” he said. “I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like. Archie is his grandson. At the same time, I will always love him. But there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened.”

And that’s the tea.
