I knew it looked familiar

Meghan Markle’s brand-new Instagram page is filled with hidden Easter eggs and rare cameos of her two children. Most recently, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, included a heartfelt tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Over the weekend, Markle posted a video on her Instagram Story, featuring a glimpse into her weekend activities. The royal was wearing a purple Northwestern University crewneck, which likely holds a special meaning.

Of course, Markle has a valid reason for wearing the sweatshirt because she graduated from Northwestern in 2003 with a double degree in Theater and International Relations.

Still, many believe it’s a nod to Princess Diana, who often wore the same exact sweatshirt during her gym outings (see the photo here). Although Princess Diana didn’t attend Northwestern University, she visited the college in June 1996.

As Tatler points out, “The purple Northwestern sweater is so closely associated with the late Princess of Wales that it has become known as the ‘Princess Diana Sweatshirt’—a staple in the athleisure looks that saw Prince Harry’s mother leave such an indelible mark on British style.”

This isn’t the first time that Markle has paid tribute to Princess Diana through her clothes (like when she wore pinstripe pants for Lilibet's first birthday). The Duchess of Sussex has also sported accessories that are connected to Princess Di, like her butterfly earrings and her cross necklace

What a special tribute.
