Prince William and Kate Middleton Have a Countdown Clock on Their IG…and It’s Almost to Zero

Tomorrow is a big day for Prince William. It marks the first time the Duke of Cambridge will announce finalists for his Earthshot prize endeavor.

On Thursday, the 39-year-old royal teased the exciting news on the IG page he shares with his wife, Kate Middleton. “Join me live tomorrow as we announce the first-ever Finalists of the @earthshotprize!” he captioned a photo of sticky notes. “Friday 17th at 12pm BST on @earthshotprize YouTube channel.” He simply signed the message, “W.” He also reshared the post on the account’s IG Story, adding a countdown clock to the big announcement.

The duke’s Earthshot Prize offers $65 million to support “solutions to the world’s greatest environmental problems” over the next decade. The initiative (which we first learned about in 2020) is the result of two years of work by the royal and The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The mission is to reward those who are making a difference in climate change.

Back in June, the royal revealed the date for the Awards in a separate post. “Where we’ll unveil five global prize winners and their game-changing solutions to repair our planet,” William said in the video clip. “October 17th in London.”

The announcement will be broadcast to a global audience and will celebrate the finalists before the awards are handed out to the first five winners of the Earthshot Prize. Oh, and the winners will each receive £1 million to scale their solutions.

All we have to say is...finally.
