Prince William Makes Rare Reference to Childhood Accident That Left Him with a Scar

FYI, the scar dates back to June 1991

Turns out, Prince William and Harry Potter (yes, the same one from the beloved children’s book series, popular film franchise and upcoming television show) have more in common than we thought.

On June 11, the Prince of Wales conversed with entrepreneurs during his visit to the Cardiff Metropolitan University in London, where he learned about how businesses and organizations are utilizing seaweed for their endeavors.

While holding a golf tee made of seaweed, according to Hello! Magazine, the future king was instantly reminded of a childhood head injury, which left him with a “Harry Potter scar” after he was hit with a golf club.

When the co-founder of Notpla Pierre Paslier asked the 41-year-old royal if he enjoys playing golf, the prince answered, “No—the last time I played golf (this happened)…” and proceeded to point at his forehead.

During an exclusive interview conducted by a 10-year-old cancer patient for BBC's Newsround, Prince William recounted the story behind the scar. “I got hit by a golf club when I was playing golf with a friend of mine," he said at the time. “We were on a putting green and the next thing you know there was a seven-iron and it came out of nowhere and it hit me in the head.”

Prince William added, “I call it [my Harry Potter scar] because it glows sometimes and some people notice it—other times they don't notice it at all.”

Aside from his “Harry Potter scar,” the Prince of Wales is quite the Potterhead. Back in 2013, Prince William, Prince Harry and Kate Middleton took a tour of Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, U.K. At the time, the trio checked out the Harry Potter exhibit. The three royals also visited Ollivanders, a wand-maker in Diagon Alley, and got a chance to play with wooden wands.

Am I the only one who never noticed Prince William’s “Harry Potter scar”?
