How to Wear Florals Like a Royal This Spring

We know, we know: Cue the Miranda Priestly impression. "Florals for spring...groundbreaking." But we love looking to the royals for style advice (they're the ultimate pros at looking put-together—even when they're dressing down). And spring florals are no exception: The monarchy absolutely thrives in its English country prints. Here, our favorite royal family members wearing the timeless spring trend.

Kate Middleton

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a silky green and red floral frock with neck bow to visit the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace just a few months before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement there in 2017.

Princess Diana

First, the elephant in the room: Prince Charles's arm is in a sling after he fell from his horse during a polo match. But what we all really need to pay attention to is this amazing skirt and shoe coordination by Princess Di. The biggest takeaway: When in doubt, add a leather belt and chambray shirt.

Meghan Markle

Mama-to-be Markle channeled her L.A. roots with a more minimalist take on the classic floral when she visited a nursing home back in December: A toned down print in neutral colors and and super-feminine (and bump-hugging) cut. That is some seriously impressive tailoring, Your Highness.

Queen Elizabeth

Never one to shy away from color, Queen Elizabeth went for it with hot-pink and neon-yellow florals. But it's not just a fashion statement: The queen always wears bright colors so the public can spot her in crowded places. “She needs to stand out for people to be able to say, ‘I saw the queen,’” Sophie, Countess of Wessex explained in a documentary. Bloody brilliant.

Meghan Markle

Just one month before her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018, Markle stepped out in a springy green Self Portrait dress under a black blazer and paired with a black shoulder bag. Note to self: Opt for one brightly colored floral, and keep the rest neutral.

Pippa Middleton

K. Middy's sister is famous for her effortless style, and this bright-red Ralph Lauren wrap dress is no exception. Pippa debuted the look at the French Open last year, and paired it with a white fedora, straw crossbody bag and white espadrilles.
