Prince George Looks So Grown Up in New Royal Family Portrait

Queen Elizabeth has her heirs by her side in a brand new royal portrait—and Prince George is getting so big

Prince George, Prince William and Prince Charles joined the monarch for the historic photo, which was taken just before the Queen’s annual Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace on December 18.

The royal family released the portrait on Instagram Friday to celebrate the start of the new year.

“Happy New Year!” the caption reads. “A new portrait of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince George has been released to mark the start of a new decade. Wishing all of our followers a happy and healthy 2020!”

The photo was taken by photographer Ranald Mackechnie in the Throne Room at the palace. In the pic we see six-year-old George wearing a pair of tartan pants (!) while the Queen smiles beside him in a light blue dress. Prince William and Prince Charles stand closely behind looking dapper in suits.

This marks only the second time a portrait has been published by Buckingham Palace of Her Majesty with her son, grandson and great-grandson. The first (below) was released back in 2016 for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
