Princess Diana & Kate Middleton’s Royal Portraits Look Eerily Similar

The royal family previously announced that Princess Diana’s portrait will be displayed at Kensington Palace. But we didn’t notice the similarities between the late royal and Kate Middleton…until now.

Last week, Kensington Palace announced that a never-before-seen portrait of Princess Diana will be displayed at the residence’s new exhibit, Life Through a Royal Lens (which is now open to the public). The photo was taken by David Bailey back in 1988 and featured Princess Diana’s striking profile.

In the pic, Princess Diana is turned to the side and showing off her structured jawline. The royal is wearing a one-shoulder dress that elegantly drapes across her neck. Curator Claudia Acott Williams explained that her stoic pose is a symbol of power. “For me, it is the most powerful of images from the sitting,” she told People magazine.

It didn’t take long for royal afficionados to compare the new portrait to Middleton’s latest photoshoot, as E! News points out. Earlier this year, Kensington Palace release three never-before-seen photos of Middleton in honor of the royal’s 40th birthday.

In one of the pics, the Duchess of Cambridge is striking a nearly identical pose to that of Princess Diana. Although she’s facing in the opposite direction, Middleton is wearing a strapless dress with bow shoulder details.

Unfortunately, the portraits aren’t displayed in the same exhibit. While Middleton’s photos are in the National Portrait Gallery, Princess Diana’s pic is shown at Kensington Palace.

So, was Middleton’s pose a coincidence? We really hope not.
