James Middleton’s Dog Just Befriended a Baby Chick & There’s a Video to Prove It

Some royals—like Prince William and Kate Middleton—are using this time of social distancing to master the art of group video chats. James Middleton, on the other hand, is taking an entirely different (yet commendable) approach.

Earlier this week, the 33-year-old brother of Kate shared a slideshow on his personal Instagram account that quite literally stopped us mid-scroll. The post shows his dog, Mabel, befriending a baby chick while “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” by Norah Jones plays in the background, and it’s exactly what we needed.

The slideshow features a video of the chick casually sitting on Mabel’s head, followed by a snapshot of the new BFFs.

James captioned the post, “Happy Easter from Mabel & her little friend. It’s a strange world we’re living in at the moment & I’m amazed how communities are putting differences aside coming together. Stay home, stay safe #thankshealthheroes.”

James is a long-time animal advocate. Not only does he have five dogs of his own (including Mabel), but he also launched a new organization last week, Paw Print Fund, which benefits animal welfare charities.

“Money raised will go directly to the RSPCA, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and The Dogs Trust,” he wrote on Instagram. “In time I hope we can support more charities. Together, we can help support pets and their owners, helping them stay in their homes and prevent rescue centers from being overwhelmed.”

Now, does Mabel’s new friend have a name?!
