Tom Hanks Will Warm Your Soul in the New Mister Rogers Movie Trailer

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, made even more delightful by the fact that we have a first look at Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers in the biopic's new trailer.

The first trailer for the film, titled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, gives viewers a look at two-time Oscar winner Hanks as the children's TV show host Fred Rogers and explores his unlikely friendship with journalist Tom Junod, played by The Americans star Matthew Rhys.

"We are trying to give the world positive ways of dealing with their feelings," Hanks's Rogers says in one scene. "I think the best thing we can do is to let people know that each one of them is precious," he tells Rhys's Junod.

In another, a group of school kids sings the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood theme song on the subway before Hanks applauds them.

Based on an article titled “Can You Say…Hero?” by Junod, the upcoming film is directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) and was written by Noah Harpster (Transparent) and Micah Fitzerman-Blue (Transparent). Matthew Rhys (The Americans), Chris Cooper (Live by Night) and This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson also appear in the highly anticipated film about the tender-hearted TV personality.

Hanks just finished his voice-acting role as Woody for the highly successful Toy Story 4, and will next star in a WWII flick called Greyhound, based on the novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is due out on November 22, 2019. 'Til then, we'll just be lint-rolling all our red cardigans in preparation for what's sure to be gloriously uplifting film.
