On October 16, Sense and Sensibility hits theaters. It's the first film adaptation of Jane Austen's 1811 debut novel since the iconic 1995 version. Stepping into Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant's shoes—the actors played Elinor Dashwood and Edward Ferrars—are Daisy Edgar-Jones and George MacKay. In a new joint interview shared exclusively with PureWow, the pair set off on a picnic in London's Hyde Park, where they reflect on how their characters fell in love, and the importance of yearning.

An exclusive look into one of literature's most famous couples

The duo strolled through the tree-lined walkways of the park before laying down a picnic blanket and wicker basket worthy of any Austen heroine. With a brash charm, MacKay confidently assured Edgar-Jones that he could catch a grape in his mouth, then proceeded to miss spectacularly and nearly kick the actress in the face. But after the giggles settled, the duo turned to a more serious topic of conversation: The relationship between their two characters. Having read all of Austen's books but one, I think theirs is the one that has left me most on the edge of my seat. It's the ultimate will-they-won't-they relationship fraught with conniving family members, lack of fortune, secret engagements and, key to all Austen plot lines, gross misunderstanding.
"I think it is so fun for an audience to see two people that love each other deeply, but aren't able to say it," Edgar-Jones said, to which MacKay followed up: "Yearning. It's timeless, isn't it?" From the moment both characters lay eyes on each other, it's apparent that there's a frisson in the air. But Elinor, famous among Austen's characters for her reservedness, and Edward, for his shyness, won't make it easy for themselves.
The yearning, indeed, is strong.
