Thomas Randolph was, by all accounts, charming and charismatic. But, he had a checkered past. Known as the "Black Widower," Randolph had a string of failed marriages, several of which had ended in his wives' deaths. When he called 911 reporting that his sixth wife, Sharon, had been shot, it seemed like a simple home invasion. But as Dateline producer Dan Slepian began digging into the case, all was not as it seemed. Now, Netflix's documentary, The Widower: 'Til Death Do Us Part, which investigates the full story, is the streamer's number two movie on the platform.

The trailer starts with a 911 call; Randolph is reporting that his wife has been shot in the head. He went on to claim that he then shot the intruder, who was allegedly making a getaway with a bag of jewelry. After being tipped off by a friend and colleague, Slepian, who had previously followed the Las Vegas police department's homicide division, started digging. What he unraveled left more questions than answers.

"That's an insane person. That's a psychotic person," the voiceover narrates.

The documentary includes interviews with Randolph, witnesses and victims' family members.

“Normally, the more you investigate, the closer you get to an answer,” Slepian told TIME. “This investigation did the exact opposite. Every answer widened the frame. Another marriage, another state, another death, another witness. And that's when I realized that what we were covering wasn’t just a single murder case, but a pattern that had been unfolding over decades.”

The 1.5-hour documentary unfolds in real time, unraveling the disturbing case and excavating Randolph's past. At the end of the trailer, he exclaims, "In the end...I'm gonna win!" Talk about something that'll keep you up at night.
