Whether it’s grilling the perfect steak or peeling an onion hands-free, no one does it (read: anything) better than Ina Garten. So, we’re waiting for the release of Modern Comfort Food, the queen’s 12th cookbook, with bated breath. Since times are dire, the Barefoot Contessa found it fit to give us a sneak peek, releasing her recipe for hot spiced apple cider last week. Yesterday, she followed up with her recipe for black and white cookies.

“Homemade Black & White cookies are one of my all-time favorite treats because they’re really more like decadent, snack-sized cakes,” she said in an Instagram post. “The best part is that they are glazed with both chocolate AND vanilla icing, so you don’t have to choose between the two. And, once you’ve had them fresh out of the oven, you’ll never go back to store-bought cookies again!”

It’s a recipe that represents the cookbook’s overall theme: old-school dishes with modern flair. The cookies are made with sour cream, which leads us to believe they turn out super soft and moist. The glazes are as simple as whisking a few pantry staples together and microwaving some “good” semisweet chocolate. Guess we know what we’re baking this weekend. See the full recipe on Ina’s website.

Other anticipated recipes in the book include Cheddar and Chutney Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Smashed Hamburgers with Caramelized Onions and Banana Rum Trifle. The cookbook’s release is October 6, but if you’re anything like us, you’ve already preordered yours.
