When Anna Wintour Tells You What to Wear to a Job Interview, You Listen—So Read On
Now, let’s raise the stakes: What if you had to choose on outfit to interview with the one and only editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour? If you answered, “Faint on impact,” you wouldn’t be wrong. Good thing Anna offers her own outfit suggestions in an episode of Vogue’s Go Ask Anna video series. And we were pleasantly surprised with her sage advice on the matter.
In the video, Anna says, “It’s so interesting to me how people dress when they come in for interviews. Sometimes you feel they’re wearing clothes that they just bought that morning or maybe the night before, and not something that in any way suits their personality and who they are. I think what everyone should remember, whether they’re interviewing at Vogue or indeed anywhere, that we’re not hiring your wardrobe. Your wardrobe is not going to be doing the job for you—it’s who you are.”
Ya hear that?!?! Anna Wintour is encouraging you to be yourself—to wear something that represents your style and highlights your personality. She recalls one candidate in particular, “I’ll always remember a young man who came in in a dress and a handbag, and I gave him the job on the spot. You have to dress for yourself. I think it doesn’t do yourself a service to fake it.”
Well, there you have it folks. From the mouth of the reigning queen of fashion, dress in something you feel comfortable and like yourself in. Need a little more help? Here are seven personality-packed pieces Anna (maybe) would approve of.
