There’s a Special Meaning Behind the Painting in Beyoncé & Jay-Z’s New Photo

We could easily go on and on about Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s latest ad campaign. But as it turns out, the famous couple weren’t the only stars in the all-new photo.

This week, Tiffany & Co. released a sneak peek at its upcoming campaign with Beyoncé and Jay-Z (debuting in print next month). As Yahoo! points out, the picture shows the duo posing in front of a never-before-seen painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat.

In the photo, Jay-Z is donning a classic tux. Beyoncé is wearing a chic black dress along with the iconic Tiffany Diamond, which has 82 facets and 128.54 carats of sparkle. (NBD.)

The painting, titled, “Equals Pi,” is situated between the couple, containing a collage of drawings, phrases and equations. The best part? The artwork features the brand’s signature blue color scheme.

According to Yahoo!, Tiffany & Co recently acquired the rare painting from a private collector, who obtained the artwork in the ’80s. However, it’s important to note that no one knows whether Basquiat purposely used Tiffany’s robin egg blue or whether it was pure coincidence.

This marks the first time that Beyoncé and Jay-Z have appeared in an ad campaign together. Tiffany & Co. has big plans for the release—not only will it debut a short film starring the couple, but it will also take over the digital billboards in Times Square in NYC.

Shout-out to Beyoncé and Jay-Z for shining a spotlight on this stunning piece of art.
