The Pitt has captivated viewers ever since it debuted on HBO Max last year. The Noah Wyle-led medical drama offers a realistic peek into the lives of ER doctors in a fictional hospital as the team faces underfunding and staff shortages. Naturally, there's a lot of medical lingo flying around as actors pantomime the litany of procedures that add up to an average day in the emergency room. But there's one cast member who actually has real-life experience—and I was shocked.
'The Pitt' Cast Member With a Surprising Real-Life ER Career
No wonder he's a natural

The Emmy Award-winning show has been praised extensively for its accuracy, and that's probably in part thanks to Ned Brower, who plays nurse Jesse Van Horn on the show. Per Seattle magazine, the actor has also worked as an ER nurse for the last five or so years. He told the publication that his skills helped him land the role, because the show was prioritizing authenticity.
As for whether there's a huge difference between his day job and playing pretend? Brower says it's the trauma scenes.
"Those become more like a dance," he tells the magazine. "We spend a lot of time choreographing them to make them look chaotic. There’s timing, rhythm, flow. Trauma care in real life is already a kind of dance, but on TV it’s choreographed instead of improvised. You have to make sure things are visible on camera, that you’re not blocking someone’s line, that a moment sweeps through the frame the right way. So it becomes this carefully constructed chaos."
With awards season in full swing, The Pitt has been taking home the trophies. It won Best Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globes, in addition to a Critics' Choice Award for Best Drama Series, Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for Wyle.
The show is currently mid-way through season two. And for those who will be anxiously awaiting season three, The Pitt will be back on screens in March 2027.
