It’s Official: Meghan & Harry Won’t Be Attending the Queen’s Christmas Festivities This Year

Looks like Queen Elizabeth will have to spend the holidays without Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and baby Archie. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are skipping the annual holiday festivities at Sandringham this year.

According to Buckingham Palace,Meghan and Harry will be purposely absent from the public walk to church on Christmas morning with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland. This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

No word on where the couple (and baby Archie) will be spending the holiday, as the Palace wants to keep that info under wraps. But, it is possible they could travel across the pond to Markle’s hometown of Los Angeles, where Ragland lives.

Although it’s tradition for members of the royal family to join the Queen at Sandringham House for the holidays, it’s not uncommon for some royals to spend Christmas elsewhere.

In 2016, Prince William and Kate Middleton opted to spend the holiday with Kate’s family and were spotted attending a church service near Kate’s childhood home in Bucklebury.

And while we understand their decision, we can’t help but wonder if there are other reasons for this move away from tradition...
