Meghan & Harry Just Turned Off Comments on Their Now-Defunct Instagram Account

ICYMI: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry bid their Instagram followers adieu on the eve of their royal exit. They thanked their community “for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world” and signed off with a simple “Harry and Meghan.” Their decision to shutter their Instagram account arose because they were asked by Queen Elizabeth to no longer use the term “royal” in reference to their personal brand. And while it doesn’t quite make sense to us why they didn’t just change the name of their handle and erase their content, the latest change to their shared Instagram profile makes a bit more sense.

As they were essentially shuttering their @SussexRoyal ’Gram handle last week, the couple switched up their go-to protocol and started following three Instagram accounts. (They usually follow one at a time to shed light on an important cause.) But that wasn’t the only change.

Today, the couple’s communication team (or the palace’s, perhaps) opted to turn off the comments on not just their final post, but all of them. Now, comments on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s defunct Instagram account are no longer visible and Instagram users can no longer write new comments.

Although the account is still technically functional, the 38-year-old duchess and 35-year-old duke will no longer be using it—nor will they be updating their former website SussexRoyal.com. Last week, a spokesperson for the couple revealed that “both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future.” They did not, however, explain when we can expect the couple to get back on social media and in what capacity that may come to fruition.

A revival of The Tig, anyone?
