With the royal family, there's always more than meets the eye, especially when it comes to their accessorizing. And over the years, we've learned that there's always plenty of hidden meaning within their jewelry choices.

Following Queen Elizabeth II's passing late last week, the family honored the monarch with a procession and a service at Westminster Hall this past Wednesday. As the family showed up to pay their respects, Meghan Markle made a subtle wink to her late grandmother-in-law.

As noted by People, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted wearing a pair of pearl drop earrings that were once gifted to her by Her Royal Majesty. The sparkly ornaments were noticeable in close-up shots of the duchess as she walked alongside her husband, Prince Harry.

According to People, these pearl accessories were bequeathed to Markle back in 2018, following her first solo outing with the queen, where the two visited Cheshire in northwest England. This venture took place only a month after Markle tied the knot with Prince Harry, and this was the first place the Duchess of Sussex was seen in the earrings.

Over the years, Queen Elizabeth made her love for pearls apparent, from her iconic strands of pearl necklaces to her other accessories featuring the shiny gemstone. During their first solo outing together, the queen even wore pearl earrings to match Markle.

For those wishing to replicate the duchess's accessory, there's a similar pair of dainty stud pearl earrings from Marrow Fine, which you can get here for $200.

Of course, when we're talking royal jewels, it's hard to copy the look exactly. But, if you're looking to incorporate pearls with a bit of an edgier style, Marrow Fine also offers these chain pearl ear knockers ($350) or curved pearl ear climbers ($880).

Markle wasn't the only one making subtle nods to the queen with her jewelry.

At the same event, Kate Middleton was seen in a diamond and pearl brooch that was clearly passed down from the queen, because Her Royal Highness wore it on a trip to South Korea back in 1999. Additionally, Middleton also donned a pair of pearl earrings that once belonged to the late Princess Diana.

As a lover of meaningful accessories, we think Queen Elizabeth would've appreciated all these subtle winks.
