In the clip, Hoda Kotb discusses Elba's many talents, including his acting, rapping and DJ experience. After mentioning Elba's involvement in the royal wedding, Kotb asked the 48-year-old actor if he had been in touch with the couple since their interview. Elba responded, "No, Hoda, not at all. And you know, I try to stay out of these affairs as much as I can. They're very dear to me but I haven't heard from them, no."
This is not the first time the Luther star has spoken up about the interview. In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Elba showed his support for Markle, saying, "Everyone has to have the opportunity to speak up about what they feel. You cannot take someone's voice away—that's all we have to communicate."
When Elba DJed for the Duke and Duchess's wedding, he used guidance from Meghan Markle herself. Elba told BBC Radio’s 1Xtra, "Meghan sent me a playlist with some bare tunes on it." But he was apparently asked to do the gig by Prince Harry, who had seen his skills firsthand. Elba told Ellen DeGeneres, "I met Harry and William a few times, and Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed, and he was like, 'Hey, man, what are you doing on [May 19]? Would you DJ at my wedding?’”
Elba is one of many who have shown support for the couple following their interview, ranging from celebs like Serena Williams all the way to Bishop Michael Curry, who made a sermon at the pair's nuptials.
