The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot Just Got Put on Hold—Here's Everything We Know

When we heard the news that Lizzie McGuire was getting a reboot, and Hilary Duff is reprising her iconic 2000s role, we immediately grabbed our butterfly clips and overalls.

However, fans of the hit tv show might have to wait longer than expected. On Thursday, Variety broke the news that the Lizzie McGuire revival is on hold as Disney+ seeks a new showrunner for the series. Original series creator Terri Minsky has left the project and Disney+ is looking to take the show in a new creative direction.

So, what exactly does that mean? For the time being, production on the show has been halted.

Here, everything we know about the (up-in-the-air) reboot.

Who Will Return for the Show?

Obvi, it’s not Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff. The 31-year-old Younger star will reprise her titular role, but as a 30-something version of the former high schooler Lizzie. She will be joined by the O.G. cast, including Hallie Todd (Jo), Robert Carradine (Sam) and Jake Thomas (Matt).

Duff teased the return of other cast members—like Lalaine (Miranda) and Adam Lamberg (Gordo)—to Entertainment Weekly shortly after the news broke. It was later confirmed that Hallie Todd (Jo), Robert Carradine (Sam) and Jake Thomas (Matt) and Lamberg would all be reprising their roles

“The whole cast is such a big part of the show and we have a lot of surprises in store for viewers,” she said.

What Will the Reboot Be About?

The reboot will center on the character, now in her 30s and living in NYC as an interior decorator’s apprentice in present day.

“She was there for everyone in their pre-teens. She was their best friend, and I would love to try to embody that for her in her 30s and going through those challenges,” Duff told E! News at the D23 expo in Anaheim, California, where the announcement was made.

“She hasn’t totally found her way and I think that’s part of her journey,” Duff told People of Lizzie’s young adult life. “I just thought that there was an opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again,” the actress and mom of two added.

Who Is Producing the Show?

Well, it was Terri Minsky, who created the original Lizzie McGuire. Looks like the hunt is on for a new showrunner.

When and Where Will It Air?

The Lizzie McGuire reboot is supposed to air on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, which launched in November. No word yet on when (or if) the show will debut, though. Our guess is later this year if all gets worked out.
