The Original Cast of ‘High School Musical’ Will Be in Disney’s Singalong Special (Yup, Including Zac Efron)

Grab your basketballs and microphones because we’re going back to East High.

According to Deadline, the original cast of High School Musical will be reuniting for Disney’s upcoming The Disney Family Singalong airing on ABC on April 16. Yup, and even Zac Efron (abs included) is on board.

Director Kenny Ortega revealed that when ABC contacted him about getting the Wildcats back together, he immediately agreed. “I wanted to find something I can do to participate and it was so great to be given the call and invited by ABC to join,” said Ortega. “It gave me a purpose to get up every morning. I feel really good that we have an opportunity to do something like this—it’s good medicine. “

Per the outlet, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Lucas Grabeel will all be performing (from home) the hit song “We’re All in This Together” from the 2006 film. Efron however, will not be singing (since he didn’t in the movie) and will reportedly be “sending a message during the special.”

“We couldn’t reach Zac until late but when we did, he immediately jumped in, of course,” Ortega continued. “Everyone we reached out to was quick—and you’ll see it in their spirit and the way they come together from their homes. They recognize this is an opportunity to strengthen spirits for those joining us for the broadcast.”

Over the weekend, Hudgens revealed that the HSM gang had taken part in a Zoom call (most likely to discuss the reunion) and shared a photo from the meeting on Instagram, captioning the post, “Guess who’s back...”

Who knew it would take a pandemic to get Efron back with his wildcats.
