Here's What Serena Williams Really Thinks About 'King Richard,' The Movie About Her Life Starring Will Smith

Over the weekend Warner Bros. Pictures dropped a new trailer for King Richard, starring Will Smith. The film tells the story of Richard Williams, the famously tough-as-nails father and coach to tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. With the rave reviews and everyone buzzing about the new flick, naturally, Serena had a strong reaction to the trailer.

Simply put, the 23-time Grand Slam winner was thrilled. She posted a video with Smith as well as big sister Venus debuting the trailer. "Don't miss out on it," she urged. "What she said," Venus chimed. The trailer shows the Williams' harrowing journey to becoming two of the most recognized names in tennis (and sports in general) of all time. From their days training in the rain and Richard's unrelenting belief in his daughters, to their debut on the world's biggest stages and even the toll the hardcore training took on their family, it's a real tear-jerker to say the least.

"I’m SO excited for you to watch the new trailer for #KingRichard, starring Will Smith and featuring the song 'Be Alive' by Beyoncé," Serena wrote in the caption. "Seeing this film (based on Venus’ and my true story) come to life has been one of the coolest experiences."

The film premieres in theaters and on HBO Max on November 19. Pass the Kleenex.
