5 Times Kate Middleton Used Her Signature Parenting Move

As a mother of three, Kate Middleton definitely has a few parenting tricks up her royal sleeve. Our favorite? Whether the 37-year-old Duchess of Cambridge is speaking with her children, Prince George (6), Princess Charlotte (4) and Prince Louis (1), or chatting with kids at a royal engagement, she always bends down to meet their eye-line. Why? Well, making eye contact with children fosters open communication. By meeting kids eye-to-eye, the duchess doesn’t assert her dominance and instead encourages children to express themselves on equal terms. Here are five times Middleton’s go-to parenting technique has helped her hit it out of the park.

1. Pulling Double Duty With Prince William

We first noticed K-Middy utilizing this trick during the Cambridges’ 2016 royal tour of Canada. At a children’s party for military families in Victoria, Canada, she bent down to listen to Prince George, while Prince William did the same for Princess Charlotte.

2. Shaking Little Hands In London

During a pre-holiday visit to the Evalina London Children’s Hospital’s orthopaedic and spinal surgery unit in 2018, Middleton bent the knee à la Jon Snow when meeting a young girl. By crouching down to shake the girl’s hand, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, made her feel more comfortable around an adult (not to mention a royal adult).

3. Using Her Parenting Trick Out In The Wild

After spending the day in Cumbria, England, for a royal engagement in June, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opted for a romantic afternoon spot of tea at the Inn on the Lake in Ullswater. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by a mini well-wisher and even though Kate wasn’t officially on duty, she still dusted off her parenting hack. (Scroll to the second photo to see).

4. Spreading Smiles

The duchess made a little girl’s day while visiting the Aga Khan Centre in London. When the elementary school-aged girl gave Kate a bouquet of flowers, she bent down to look her in the eye and express her gratitude. Judging from the girl’s reaction, she definitely felt at ease.

5. Bringing Her Parenting Tips To Pakistan

When Middleton and Prince William touched down at the Nur Khan airbase in Pakistan for her royal tour, she greeted two young children in traditional dress with a big smile and bent down to thank them for their gifts.

Whether in London or Pakistan, this parenting move really does the trick.
