She almost got me

Today’s a good day to keep your guard up. Why? Because it’s April Fools’ Day, and you know what that means—pranks, hoaxes and all-around chaos designed to get a laugh. From replacing the filling of an Oreo with toothpaste to swapping sugar with salt or trading vanilla frosting for sour cream, it’s all in the name of harmless fun. Even celebrities like Martha Stewart are getting in on the action.

Stewart recently took a stroll down memory lane and shared a hilarious throwback from The Martha Stewart Show that had me cracking up. In the clip, she pulls off an April Fools’ prank by claiming her studio was the “only one in the world” powered by potatoes. She even showed images of potatoes hooked up to wires and electrical units to really sell it.

“We’ve been using these organic generators for years,” she said with a straight face.

But wait—she didn’t stop there. Martha went all in and introduced a “portable potato power pack,” which was essentially a potato sack backpack with a hose attached. “Who needs extension cords? Potato power is a very good thing,” she proclaimed.

Of course, she didn’t keep the joke going for too long. She ended the segment with a clever twist, saying, “Someone famous said, ‘April Fools is the day we remember who we are the other 364 days of the year.’ Happy April Fools.”

The lifestyle icon captioned the post with, “There’s no power like potato power,” followed by a potato emoji.

Honestly, when I first watched it, I was almost sold. It was just strange enough to feel almost plausible, especially in today’s world where anything seems possible. And it looks like I wasn’t the only one who was a bit taken in.

“I remember seeing this when it first aired. I was like ‘WTF’? It took me WAY too long to realize it was a joke,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “I was like really??!? This has to be AI,” and a third simply asked, “Is this real???”

This isn’t the first time Martha’s left her fans scratching their heads. Back in March, she shared another throwback of her father’s favorite late-night snack—an onion sandwich. And let’s just say, the internet had thoughts about that one too.

Way to keep people on their toes, Martha!
