1. When Was Heartstopper Season Two Confirmed?

In May 2022, Netflix announced that Heartstopper is returning for not just one, but two more seasons. On the official Twitter page, Netflix wrote, “To those who have fallen in love with Nick & Charlie, cried watching Alice Oseman's magical story brought to life, or felt represented for the first time on-screen, I am elated to announce... Heartstopper has been renewed for TWO MORE SEASONS!”

Executive producer Patrick Walters also said in a statement, “We put so much love into the making of Heartstopper, so to reassemble the team for two more seasons is a dream come true. I’m forever grateful to Alice Oseman for entrusting us with this beautiful, unique story that at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people. Stay tuned!”

2. Is There a Trailer?

Why yes, there is. Netflix has just released the official trailer for Heartstopper season two across their social media channels. The two-minute teaser starts with Charlie (Joe Locke) walking into the classroom where he and Nick (Kit Connor) first met. But, Nick is not there. And before Charlie can react, Nick appears behind him and they greet each other with a line fans have come to know and love: “Hi.”

In the new season, the gang is leaving the halls of Truham Grammar School for the romantic scenery of Paris, France. While Nick and Charlie are working through their public romance, everyone is trying to figure things out, from Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao) feeling out their relationship to Isaac (Tobie Donovan) finding a new love.

3. When Is the Release Date?

At the end of the official trailer, the release date for the newest installment flashes across the screen, which reads, “Only on Netflix August 3.”

4. What Is Heartstopper Season 2 About?

Based on the newly released trailer, it appears that the second season will pick up right where the previous installment left off. Just in case you need a recap, the season two finale deviates from the original graphic novels by Alice Oseman. In the book, Nick ditches Charlie after they share their first kiss, but in the series finale, Nick comes out to his mom and then shares a romantic moment with Charlie on the beach, indicating that he’s done with hiding. So, it seems the second season will follow Nick and Charlie trying to navigate their relationship after coming out while also dealing with their own challenges.

And it looks like Heartstopper season two is going to be a little bit different from its predecessor. Some cast members from the show made a special appearance at the 2023 Attitude Pride Awards.

While on the red carpet, actor Kizzy Edgell (who plays Darcy in the show) revealed the new installment will have a more “mature” tone this time around.  “It’s more mature but not in a bad way. Alice [Oseman, the creator] has made strong characters, I feel they can overcome anything,” they told Attitude.

Corinna Brown (aka Tara) also added, “It’s basically even more Heartstopper. So much more friendship, excitement, and story. More story.”

5. When Did Heartstopper Season 2 Start Filming?

The cast and crew started filming the second installment in September 2022. At the time, the streaming service released a new video confirming the news, where we saw the return of some familiar faces.

The video starts with Kit Connor (Nick) and Joe Locke (Charlie) looking at the camera with confused expressions on their faces (and possibly holding the script for season two?). They say in unison, “Oh, hi.” Then, we get to see a few of our fav characters: Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tao (William Gao), Darcy (Kizzy Edgell), Isaac (Tobie Donovan) and more.

6. Who’s In the Cast?

It’s safe to say that Narlie will definitely make a comeback, which means Kit Connor and Joe Locke will return. The same could be said for their friends Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao), as well as Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell).

The streaming platform also announced that four new cast members will be joining the show: Leila Khan, Jack Barton, Bradley Riches and Nima Taleghani.

According to Deadline, Khan will play a Higgs school student named Sahar Zahid, whereas Riches will take on the role of a Truham school student James McEwan. In addition, Taleghani will play Mr. Farouk, a new teacher at Truham and Barton is set to portray Nick’s older brother, David Nelson.

Netflix even shared a new picture with all the new and returning cast members across their social media accounts. The caption read, “Welcome back to our original cast and hello to some new faces joining us for season 2! 🍂💖.”
