Netflix Just Canceled One of My 10 Favorite Shows of the Year and I’m Not Happy

But Kim Kardashian gets a season two?!

Some bad news for lovers of good TV: Netflix has decided not to renew one of the 10 best shows of 2025—and yes, I'm sour about it.

According to Deadline, the groundbreaking gay military series Boots has officially been canceled and will not be getting a season two. The show arrived earlier this year to great acclaim, from critics and viewers alike. Sadly, this wasn't enough to inspire the streamer to renew Boots for another iteration.

Boots is an eight-episode dramedy, inspired by former U.S. Marine Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine. The series is set in the “tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s US Marine Corps when being gay in the military was still illegal,” according to Tudum.

As I previously wrote, "Boots is one of those shows that took viewers and critics completely by surprise. Though it lacks the star-power associated with so many other shows on [my best of 2025 list], the dramedy packs a true emotional punch (no wonder it spent so long on Netflix’s Top 10 Shows list)."

Unfortunately, none of that was enough. (Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian's terrible law firm series got renewed, and I'm still stewing over it.)

And even more unfortunate? There's no chance for the series to be scooped up by another streaming service (a la Manifest). Per Deadline, "Because of Netflix’s strict exclusivity terms, it is virtually impossible for an outside studio to shop a series after it has been canceled by the streamer." *Sigh*

I guess I should be grateful that we got the series at all. It was a long road from the initial book, which was published in 2015, to Netflix. So I guess it's time for a rewatch in honor of the talented (and suddenly unemployed) cast...
