One of the side effects of the streaming era? Great shows falling through the cracks. And even when they do get attention, they’re often canceled way too soon (RIP The Waterfront, Kaos and the endless list that still stings). But a new series has just climbed to the #3 spot on Netflix’s coveted Top 10 and viewers are already hoping it escapes that dreaded fate.

Enter Boots, Netflix’s latest one-hour dramedy, inspired by former U.S. Marine Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine. The eight-episode series is a coming-of-age story set in the “tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s US Marine Corps when being gay in the military was still illegal,” as Tudum puts it.

The show follows Cameron Cope (played by 13 Reasons Why’s Miles Heizer), a closeted and aimless teen who joins the Marines alongside his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated officer. What follows is an emotional and sometimes hilarious journey through boot camp, as a group of misfit recruits bond, break and figure out who they really are under pressure.

Since its October 9 debut, Boots has earned a 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and glowing praise from critics and fans alike. USA Today called it “one of the best new series Netflix has produced in years,” while Us Weekly gushed that it’s “one of my favorite 2025 shows.”

On Reddit, viewers are just as hyped.

“I absolutely LOVED IT!! It was so refreshing especially after watching Monsters. I hope there’s a season 2,” one user wrote. Another added, “I binged the whole thing in one sitting. Didn’t finish until 4am. Such an amazing show—probably one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. Might watch it all over again.”

If the early buzz is any sign, Boots could be Netflix’s next sleeper hit and it’s streaming now.
