Is Jello Skin the New Dewy Skin?

Ready for another TikTok beauty trend? Meet Jello Skin, the latest skincare craze to take over the platform. With over 14 million views and counting, #Jelloskin refers to the shiny, bouncy quality of skin that resembles the shiny, bouncy dessert of our youth it’s named after: Jell-O.

The term comes from skincare influencer Ava Lee (@glowwithava), who explains that she named it this because there was no direct translation for the Korean word “taeng taeng” (탱탱) that’s commonly used to describe this coveted quality in skin. “Every time you move it out of place, it should bounce back immediately,” she explains in her video.

According to Ava, to achieve Jello Skin, you need to practice good skincare habits including regular facial massages, but you should also eat a consistent diet that’s filled with nutrient-and water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables. She’s also a proponent of eating collagen-rich foods like oysters and bone broth.

It should be noted that there is a genetic component to consider here as well. Some people naturally have more collagen and elastin in their skin to begin with, and let’s not forget that losing some bounce in your skin is a completely normal part of aging. In short, please try as best as humanly possible not to compare your Jello to other people’s Jello. That said, everyone—no matter their age or genetics—can enjoy a Jello skincare routine, which we’ve shared our picks for below.
