2026 is the first year in some time to begin with no planets retrograde. Despite this, I know I’m not alone in feeling like things have been slow to start. But is that a bad thing?
The astrological explanation for this is that we’re at the beginning of many new cycles, and a lot has to end before other things can begin—cue Semisonic’s “Closing Time” for the Millennials and Gen Xers. This sky poetry is made obvious this week when Capricorn season concludes with a new moon in Capricorn on the 18th, taking place in the final degrees of the sign of the sea goat. This new moon brings a driven and focused energy that encourages finding a way forward that's off the beaten path.
A vibe shift arrives on the 19th as the sun enters Aquarius. Happy solar return to the hot and aloof weirdos of the zodiac! Mercury enters Aquarius on the 20th and action planet Mars moves into Aquarius on the 23rd. On the 21st, Mercury goes into the heart of the sun (what astrologers call cazimi) bringing “a-ha!” moments and breakthroughs galore.
It’s an overwhelming week with many things happening at once. Notice what’s getting started and what’s coming to an end. This new chapter may be slow to roll out, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have a huge impact.
