How close are you to Saturn?

There’s no denying that labels, once an organization tool, are now a mode of entertainment in our increasingly chaotic world. We’re culturally obsessed with putting people into boxes. Why? Because it’s fun! As a professional astrologer, I get asked about the different zodiac sign’s personality traits and idiosyncrasies all the time, but when I give my answers, I’m usually referencing more anecdotal data than empirical. The truth is personality isn’t fixed and astrology isn’t a personality test. Still, we love to assign people to their box.

Libra and Aquarius Compatibility: Star-Crossed or Ready to Crash?

When asked which zodiac signs are most likely to “speak to the manager,” I bristled at first. All of them and none of them, I thought. Are we really going to call one zodiac sign a Karen over the others? But then, I realized there might be some actual astrological evidence for which signs are the most likely to do this—namely Saturn.

As the planet of rules, boundaries and restrictions, Saturn runs a tight ship. You might know about the Saturn Return, the astrological transit which everyone experiences around age 29, marking the transition between youth and true adulthood. Going through any kind of Saturn transit brings delays and tough love. There are also two signs that are ruled by Saturn: Capricorn and Aquarius. And no, we’re not saying these two are the troublemakers of the zodiac, but they’re definitely the most likely to speak up when they’re not satisfied with their service or experience.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign, ruled by Saturn. Known for being bosses themselves, sea goats hate feeling out of control. On a foundational level, Capricorns can also be very impatient and secretly a bit hot-headed. It’s not that they think they’re better than or more knowledgeable than everyone else, it’s that they have good instincts about what’s right and know high quality when they see it. Ultimately as earth signs, Capricorns want stability and peace, and if they feel that anything or anyone is getting in the way of that, they will ask to talk to a supervisor.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Aquarius is a fixed air sign, ruled by Saturn. Unlike Capricorns, they’re less concerned with the tangible and material, and more concerned with the social. As much as Aquarius is thought of as a rebel, water bearers aren’t anarchists; they crave systems and structures. Like all fixed signs, Aquarians can also be quite stubborn and stuck in their ways. A frustrated Aquarian might ask to speak to the manager to get what they want, but they’re equally likely to call and leave a good review for a customer service rep they were pleased with. They know that ultimately the problem isn’t individual, it’s collective, and want the system to work better for everyone in the long run.

Are you a Capricorn or an Aquarius who’s asked to speak to a manager in a time of need? Do you have a Capricorn or Aquarius family member or friend who’s done this in the past? Keep an eye out for this tendency—and remember not to get into too much of the conflict with a Capricorn or an Aquarius, because being ruled by the ringed planet of Saturn, they’re likely to talk circles around you.
