Welcome to 2026! The new year kicks off on a productive note as communication planet Mercury leaves chaotic Sagittarius for measured Capricorn on the 1st. This is the first year since 2021 that begins with no inner planets retrograde! Capricorn season is supercharged in 2026 as we have the sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars all in the sea goat’s sign. All of the planets piling up in the cardinal earth sign speaks to initiations and new beginnings that are high quality and meant to last.
All of the determined Capricorn energy is broken up on the 3rd when the annual full moon in Cancer brings emotional realizations and reality checks. Relationship-oriented planets Venus and Mars meet up with each other and with the sun on the 6th through the 9th, bringing both beginnings and endings in all matters of connection. If the plan works, stick to it. If the plan no longer works, get a new one. Capricorn season concludes with a new moon in Capricorn on the 18th in the final degrees of the sign, encouraging us all to let go and focus on the next chapter.
Venus—planet of love, beauty and connection—moves from grounded (well, sort of; Caps know what I’m talking about!) Capricorn to way-out-there Aquarius on the 17th. Under this influence, love sparks through intellectual connection, and flirtation looks like nerding out together. Then on the 19th, Aquarius season begins as the sun enters the fixed air sign. Mercury then enters Aquarius on the 21st and action planet Mars moves into Aquarius on the 23rd. Happy solar return to the hot and aloof weirdos of the zodiac!
The month concludes with Neptune—planet of our collective illusions—moving, for the final time, from Pisces into Aries on the 29th. This shift makes the end of one 15-year chapter and the beginning of a new one. Neptune was from March 30 through October 22, 2025, giving us a brief preview of what the next 15 years will be like. While Neptune was in Pisces, the sign of compassion blurred boundaries, from 2011 through 2025, “wellness” became a buzzword and it was often hard to tell what was fantasy and what was reality. With Neptune now in Aries, we’ll be idealizing struggle, valor and self-assertion.
