Prince Harry has already touched down in London ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral. However, that doesn’t mean the Duke of Sussex will pick up right where he left off with his royal family responsibilities.
Specifically, Prince Harry may not be allowed to salute at his grandfather’s celebration of life, which will take place at Windsor Castle on April 17. It all goes back to when the royal and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down as senior members of the family. As a result, the Duke of Sussex lost his military titles, such as Captain General of the Royal Marines.
This change in status had a major impact on how Prince Harry is expected to behave at future events, including Prince Philip’s funeral. Not only will he likely wear a suit (instead of a military uniform), but he’ll also miss out on a special moment including Prince Charles and Prince William, since Prince Harry is no longer supposed to salute.
As Hello! magazine points out, “only those wearing a military headdress can salute.” Although Prince Harry may choose to wear his medals (which is acceptable even after losing his rank), he’s not supposed to don the official uniform anymore.
